Don’t bang your drums at me….
And still that tambourin
Don’t rattle me.
Shut off your orchestra.
Your trombones and your clarinets.
Don’t deafen me.
Triumphant tubas
and loud brassy horns
Percussion me…
Your blasting saxophones
and squeaking flutes
are torturous to me.
I’m Oscar Peterson.
I am Adagio…I wear
silk skirts and autumn leaves.
Don’t bassoon me.
I’m wedded to the sorrow
of Yehudi’s violin.
Vivaldi’s mandolin and lute,
And Jacqueline’s sweet cello
playing Bruch.
Don’t bang your drums at me!
