Amore.

We fall in love with a gaze,
…a smile….a body….
Arcadia for a while.

And then,
We fabricate a paramour
who never could exist.
Create a person to adore
as our sweet swan forever more
afloat a loving lake.

Our senses soar aflame.
We dream of the sublime
A world in the ethereal,
Celestial…divine.

But by some trick of cruel fate,
that love is built on shifting sands
which move and drift and fall away,
And all begins to change.

The defects of our fantasies
emerge like lusty thorns,
Marauding our sweet reveries…
….Reality is born.

Our former ecstasy flies off.
Becomes a grinding hell.
That hapless fever that we caught
Now stings our every cell.

And we return in burning pain,
to the orb we’d wished to leave.
And this becomes our place again,
As we repair our ragged grief.
