As my stay in Alcatraz is forever extending
I’ve been back in hospital with Guillain Barre
Syndrome. This is the result of my recent
illness.
I’ve decided to come out of the closet with
a few highlights from my enchanting week.
Apart from the giving of blood and endless
checks for this and that…
I’ve had :
A Lumber Puncture….. aaargh…
A Brain Scan…………. I passed!
Body Electric Shocks….think Electric chair.
and then finally…yesterday afternoon…
Immunoglobulin Treatment
The Glob Machine was being VERY contrary...with bubbles..
.kept stopping. The frustrated nurse replaced
the lead twice squeezing out any bubbles she could see.
’I think we should 'lodge a complaint' with the makers' I said.
'It's the nature of the thing.' said the Nurse.
" Think white of egg.'
'Oh, So I'm about to become a diet omelette.' I jested merrily.
The nurse did not get it.
Anyway....as the thing finally got flowing...they checked
my temperature and blood pressure etc every 15 mins or so.
As my temp. soared to 38.7 or 101f
(the nurse became anxious) I became a cold
as the entombed.
Or…’as cold as the leathery dead' as Anne Sexton
wrote in Mercy Street..
I've never felt such a body chill in my life.
Both fever hot and frozen at the same time.
Paracetamol brought temp down quickly
and I proceeded to heat up and sweat
like a grilling pig. I mean….what?
Anyway…today is another day.
And I feel fine.
