The Turtle and the Straw.
A Sea of Plastic Trash
the size of France becomes
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
It lies between Los Angeles…where angels dwelt,
and Honolulu where the Angels fell.
The sea cannot digest this floating hell
which has absorbed contaminants.
The sun breaks down the resins
into tiny parts.
Plastic outweighs zooplankton…
six to one…. a starvation diet
from the start.
Diving birds ingest our plastic waste,
And much of sea life is now
close to death
with every swallowed toxic bite.
And we, as hapless fools each one,
buy food in plastic by the ton.
Our plastic straws…our shampoos..
and our soaps…where is the hope?
And there upon a veterinary bench
A turtle has an inhaled straw pulled out…
it’s bloodied pain slow trickles
down its face.
We’re killing life on sea and earth.
