Moody Monday….Arklow Harbour
The brooding skies belie the softness in the air
the lapping of the water at the edge
is calm
and it is here the Avonmore rolls out to join the sea
the old anchor , now just a decoration piece
reminds us that the harbour is an empty place
the glory days the busy ways are over
for today
the ships call in no more
the feeling here is lonely
warehouses crumbling behind their ‘ feck off ’ gates
showrooms eerie…abandoned thus
old containers left to rust….
on top of this the fishermen have gone
the rules declare this island of the sea
may fish no more
The angle Emir’s wings
will not fly again
and round the corner
where boats since Viking times were built
The is a wilderness
A twisted tangle of what might have been
but….
the clouds are lifting now
tomorrow is another day
who knows what’s round the corner.
