Did I Stand By.

We..who’ve parked our lives in some grey parking lot
End up as woven into long and weary hours
Of another’s life.
We gave and lost ourselves
...to servitude.
How long ago was liberty
When was that turning point ?

I picture now the heady days of equal standing.
Mycenae was a dusty land
Our feet were firm upon it
Before collectively
We were all plunged into Perdition’s Pit.
What led to these events ?

When was my tongue cut out so that I may not speak ?
My eyes gouged out so that I may not see..?
My ears blocked up so that I may not hear
What fatal day was it
I could not sing or hear my own sweet song ?
Did I stand by and let the deeds be done?

When was it deemed I was the weaker sex
And on what grounds was this defined..?
It was not that I could not till the land !
When was it deemed that I was weaker of mind
It was not that I did not know astrology.

My art is everywhere, in all the burial grounds
I made the jewels.. the pots..the clothes
I played the lyre.. wrote poems...
And yes ..I sang my songs before the dye was cast
And shadows fell on me.
