Bernadette goes to the Park
in Bethnal Green,
And sits on the old bench
Where once she sat with Brian….
Beneath the dapple of the Mulberry tree,
They watched the fleeting passersby…
Walk , skate, and run…and leave.
Then Death came down
To fell Its deadly blow …
And Brian left this earth
For… who knows where we go.
And…Bernadette sits in the park,
Alone…
With a dolorous distance in her eyes…
She opens up the old blue flask
And takes small sips of Rosé Wine
As they had done so many times
Before Brian’s demise.
Nearby….
The Bells of old St John’s ring on.
As Bernadette sits in silent gaze…
These days…alone.
